Snorkel Skill Level: Beginner to Intermediate
What to Expect: Participants will meet at Riviera Beach City Marina and catch the shuttle to Peanut Island. Only a few minutes away by boat, visiting Peanut Island feels like entering a completely different latitude. Marine Biologist, Christa Jewet will provide participants with an overview of reef fishes and marine life focusing on Romans 1:20 and Job 12:7-10. They will then be led on a guided snorkeling adventure in the shallow water around the island. Groups will include a maximum of twelve people and will be based on age and skill level. The snorkeling experience will be tailored to accommodate snorkelers of all skill levels.
Crystal blue water, an abundance of reef fish and beautiful seashells make this a location to remember. Peanut Island Park is an isolated island park in the middle of the Intracoastal Waterway. There are restrooms, beach showers, drinking fountains and shaded picnic areas available on the island.
Who Can Attend: All participants must be strong swimmers. Snorkelers must be at least 4 years of age. Children under 13 years old must be accompanied and supervised by a parent during the snorkel tour. Children who are 0-3 years of age may accompany their families to the island. They do not have to pay the associated event fee as they are too young to snorkel but they do have to pay the fee for the Peanut Island Shuttle. What to Bring: Please come prepared to spend a day at the beach in the hot Florida sun! We will have time to eat lunch during the tour so please bring water, lunch and snacks. Please note that there are no concessions available on the island. If you have a cart or cooler that is more than 30 inches, you will be charged an additional $5 to bring it on the shuttle with you. Participants must also bring their own mask and snorkel. While masks and snorkels can be rented from the Peanut Island Shuttle, we recommend that you bring your own to ensure proper fit and comfort during the snorkel. Swim fins are not allowed as they become a safety issue in a large group. Water shoes are highly recommended as an alternative.
Where to Meet: Peanut Island is only accessible by boat. Participants will meet at Riviera Beach City Marina and catch the Peanut Island Shuttle which will transport them via boat over to the island. The shuttle leaves promptly at the scheduled time so please be on time! Riviera Beach City Marina is located at 200 E. 13th Street, Riviera Beach, FL 33404 which is just south of Blue Heron Blvd. on Federal Highway in Palm Beach County. Please allow at least one hour to drive from Fort Lauderdale to the marina.
Cost: $50 per Adult (ages 12 & up)
$40 per Child (ages 4-11)
Expenses: There is a fee of $16.00 per person (8 years and older) for the boat shuttle to Peanut Island. The fee for children under 8 years of age is $8.00 each. Cash or credit/debit card can be used to pay this fee for ferry transportation to and from Peanut Island.
*Cost of the Peanut Island Shuttle is additional. This fee will be paid directly to the shuttle on the day of the event.
